A Storm Breaking Day
Fog.
The gloom greets the day
As if to tauntingly say,
Transparency is voided,
Clarity is vetoed.
Clouded.
Head and heart weighty,
Burdened by the murky.
Trouble descends.
Tears take residence.
Cloud.
A mass of water vapor
Floating without care
Replicating a cycle
Initiating a wash so vital.
Rain.
Droplets of life.
Small gifts delivered
To wash, to cleanse, to birth
Newness, freshness, deliverance.
Storm.
Rigid strikes against the soul
Rampant sorrows break the whole.
Rough seas roar and rumble,
Feet falter and scramble.
Flood.
Too much, too fast, too hard.
Slipping away with no regard.
Gone. Done. None.
Emptiness invades.
Flooded.
Existing in the overflow
Surviving with every breath.
Thrown off by every blow,
Clinging to the roots, the depth.
Sky.
Always upward, always above.
Present behind the dark,
Hiding behind the gray.
Lingering, hoping for a new day.
Sun.
Warmth in a wasteland of grace.
Love radiating, reaching every place.
Illuminating, invigorating,
Drying the tears,
Comforting the fears.
Motivating the broken.
SON.
The gift of the Father.
Weighty. Life changing.
Consistently present in the clouds,
Unfailingly evident in the storm.
Reaching down, pulling up
Restoring to its truest form.
Lord, today, I pray for my friends near and far. Those who find themselves in life’s unexpected weather patterns: the fog, the flood, the storm…be with them in their plight. Hear their cries, collect their tears, and hold their hand on the slippery slopes. May they know the gift of Your presence in the midst of the void, the silence, and the emptiness. May they see Your consistency along the journey and, even when it feels impossible, may they boldly reach out toward the SON, toward the Rescuer. For those who are angry, radiate Your peace. For those who are deeply hurt, elevate their joy. For those who feel so very lost, illuminate the path. For those who only see hopelessness, initiate a life-changing miracle. Remind us that even in weighty seasons, we will not be shaken or crushed because we have a constant Friend in times of need. May today be a storm-breaking day. Amen.
I always let the Lord guide me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
- Psalm 16:8
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
- Psalm 46:1
Until next time my friend,
