How to Provide Feedback

Feedback may sound daunting or overwhelming. Here is the good news, you are not grading an essay and you do not have to be a grammar guru to provide the type of feedback I am looking for.

I am looking to see if this book (1) engages you, (2) challenges you, and (3) inspires you to make changes.

Here is a breakdown of some ways you can provide feedback as a beta-reader.

Corrections/Suggestions

  • Mark misspelled words or typos (wrong words)

    • If you feel comfortable, marking any punctuation errors or agreement issues

  • Lack of clarity

    • I had to re-read this sentence 3 times to understand it

    • I am not sure what you are trying to say here

    • This example may be a stretch

  • Repetition

    • I have seen this word a lot

    • Did you know you used the same word in the same sentence?

    • Three paragraphs in a row begin with the same word.

  • Word usage

    • I would like to suggest the use of this word instead

    • This word triggers emotions that are unpleasant

Emotional

  • What would you highlight or underline as a keepsake if you were reading this in book form?

  • What absolutely has to stay in the book - do not delete!

  • This needs to be expanded or illustrated with more depth

  • This went on too long - you lost me about here

  • This could be confusing to people who do not know…

  • This may be insensitive

Content

  • This contradicts something you said earlier

  • This Bible verse may not be used correctly or it needs additional explanation

  • Great place to add more research (outside sources)

  • This point is strong or this point is weak and why?

  • Look at the balance of teaching and connection (emotion)

  • Do the action-steps match the teaching?

  • Are the action steps and the teaching relatable to both male/female and young/older?

**All suggestions/corrections will be looked at and considered but not necessarily employed.

**Help me point out what is working well and what I can improve.

**If you are reading only portions, recognize that some concepts may have been developed in chapters that you did not read.
